I recently shot the interior photographs La Palma restaurant in downtown Toronto. The restaurant is owned by Alexandra Hutchison and Craig Harding who are also the duo behind Campagnolo restaurant, a restaurant on many “Best Of” lists.
For this job, they wanted a few photos of the space with and without people in them. With the restaurant being open 7 days a week from 8am – 11pm it was hard to get shots with no one in them.
Alexandra also told me that they had seen my work and they just wanted me to do my thing. This was very comforting coming from a client.
The idea behind the restaurant came from a trip to Venice Beach, California where a connection was made between the similarities of the Trinity Bellwoods area and VB. With that in mind, La Palma was created with the style and feel of a venue one would find in Venice Beach.
Chef Craig Harding was behind the food while Alexandra took care of the style. Garage doors line one side of the building allowing lots of natural light. Gold, white and light blue are the main colours here and the walls are painted with a palm like design.
